AMNESIA HOUSE
The Edge, Coventry – New Years Eve Special
With large queues of ravers building up outside The
Edge from 7pm, I got the feeling it was going to be a packed night.
I didn’t go into the club myself until 1am, as this was due to the
mass number of ravers who were still queuing up. Better organisation
of the event would have ensured the queuing barricades being
erected. Ravers who had been queuing for two hours were suddenly
being pushed to the back by ravers who started to pile right up
against the front doors of the club. This resulted in tempers
running high and arguments and scuffles broke out with security.
Once inside the club the atmosphere was great. Plenty of smiling
faces and whistles blowing. The building was rammed solid. It
started me reminiscing about the old Eclipse days – The Hite Nite’s,
The Omen’s and New Age Events, when raving started to take Britain
by storm. All four floors of the building were packed out including
the stairways. It wasn’t security which was needed at this event,
but crowd control.
Many ravers complained that too many people had been allowed into
the club, and I had to agree. It was impossible to find your own
space to dance on any floor and this defeated the object of going
out for a good nights raving. If you can’t dance, then it’s
impossible to enjoy the music to it’s full potential. After all, a
rave where you can’t dance is about as useful as a chocolate teapot!
The sound system was crystal clear with plenty of bass line and the
lighting display was second to none.
I couldn’t fault the presentation of the display which was on offer
but better organisation of the event would probably have ensured
most of the crowd returning to The Edge for future events –
something which the venue desperately needs. The
reply from Amnesia House
The event was a total sell out and we had hundreds
of people turning up at the door without tickets, causing problems
for those who had purchased in advance, resulting in some of these
people not even getting in. However, anybody who didn’t get in has
had a refund and a letter written to them in person explaining the
problems we had on the night, they have also been invited to our
next event as VIP’s. The queuing arrangements are controlled by The
Edge Security who had crossed wires about opening times. Therefore,
they arrived at 10.00pm, us the organisers had to open the doors at
8.00pm as advertised, giving us the job of taking tickets and
searches which became hectic. We have had a few letters of complaint
because of these problems, but we guarantee at our next event this
problem will not arise again. We would also like to mention that we
have also received many letters of thanks for a Top Night, we
realise that although there was a few disappointed people there were
many more that were satisfied with the event.
We would also like to say we employed a professional company who
transformed the inside of the venue with backdrops and camouflage
netting, but as you call understand the cost of the DJ’s for a New
Years Eve event is doubled, as is lighting, sound, security etc.
Amnesia House will always take the criticism as well as praise, our
aim is always to look after the punters, not our pockets.
