Event Review – Paradise Presents Bouncy at Cuba
Sheffield – 6th August 1994
Two cars, seven people, four of the foxiest babes to accompany us on
the long drive from Birmingham to Sheffield, so off we set. DJ
Brisk, Marky Moore, with Karen, Fiona, Julie and Donna –all in
various states of “undress!” and last but not least Ralf E P, in the
lime green Oracle machine. We arrived at about 11.30pm no parking
problems and not too far to walk to the club. We were met at the
door by the door/security staff and Craig one of the organisers of
Bouncy and resident (DJ Dream). We were shown in and taken upstairs
to the already quite full main room, where DJ’s Druid and
Vinylgroover were playing a ruff back to back set, which was full of
happy hardcore, to the obvious delight of the already buzzin’ and
dancing crowd.
The main dance arena has seating all around the outside of the room,
which I think is a very good idea for people to chill on, or just
rest up. Plenty of visual stimulation in the way of lights, strobes,
scans, backdrops and the camera man’s worst nightmare! – Smoke –
Loads of it!!
The dance area was already rammed and bouncing to the sounds of
Druid, who played until 12.30 not only was the dance floor buzzin’,
but all around the edges too – even the bar staff were having a go.
There were about 4-500 happy smiling partiers in the house by this
time and when Brisk took over the decks at 12.30, he ripped the
place apart with his set of techno, breakbeat and anthems.
Brisk certainly knows what his crowd wants – and he gives it to them
ruff and ready – Hard and fast.
I knew that this was what the people had been waiting for, Brisk has
become a firm favourite at this club now, as well as quite a few
others he plays at around the country. I had to go and stand by the
DJ booth to watch this jock and after watching him perform for over
half an hour, I know why he is a favourite here and at Kinetic, to
name two clubs.
He amazed me with this mixing, and ability to manipulate his tunes
by scratching, back spinning and loads of other things I saw him
doing, and believe me, his results sounded superb, with the ability
that this jock has – he is certainly a name to watch out for the in
the future, his versatility, ability, style and technique are in my
opinion amongst the best I’ve seen.
An adequate 6K rig was in use in the main room, not sure which type
it was, and who cares – the results were loud, crisp and clear, it
did the job it was meant to do and had been placed to give the best
possible results and sound quality.
I ventured downstairs to the other part of the venue, which is a
“Tracey and Sharon type club”, know what I mean! and not part of
Bouncy, so I’m not going to tell you about it! But it was full and
house music was being pumped out to full effect, not my type of
people – so sharp exit.
Back upstairs, organiser DJ Dream – Craig (All the same person) and
resident jock was lifting the roof off the house with his set of
banging hands in the air anthems, ensuring everyone left on a high –
the way it should be.
Everything is catered for and provided by the organisers at this
club, which makes it, a safe club and a pleasure to be in it, which
is what it is all about – places to go where you feel safe, can let
your hair down (if you have some) and enjoy yourself.
I didn’t encounter any attitude in the club at all, only happy
smiling people on the same happy equal vibe and believe me there
were miles of smiles!
