Clockwork Orange at the Camden Palais
After returning from Ibiza in late August, I didn’t
think I would be experiencing the sounds of Clockwork Orange until
Summer 1996! So you can understand what a feeling it was, to see
they were at the Camden Palais – not twenty minutes from my
doorstep!
Being my fourth visit to the Camden Palais, with its new layout and
décor, we knew vaguely what to expect. Deciding at the beginning of
the month what to do on Halloween, we were pleased to see Clockwork
Orange putting on a night at our local club.
So, with careful deliberation we chose the night, and went down
early to get tickets, rather than turning up to a sold out venue. In
Ibiza we witnesses Clockwork Orange pull off an 8,000 attendance at
Es Paradis, so their popularity is maximum, both abroad and at home.
The queues looked worth about twenty minutes wait, no longer than
usual at the Palais, and after the random search, we entered the
venue for the night!
On entry, we noticed the crowd was rocking, and gradually
increasing. The atmosphere at the Palais is always good, with plenty
of happy friendly faces, and this night was no exception. A slightly
older crowd than usual, and plenty of clubbers in fancy dress, but
nevertheless a great atmosphere!
The DJ’s always seem to start with progressive tunes, stepping up
the pace as the hours tick by. With a line-up of Brandon Block, John
Kelly, Lisa Loud, Andy Manston, Seb Fontaine and Luvdup’s Adrian and
Mark what could go wrong? The best set of the night came from John
Kelly who kept the crowd alive with some trancy uplifting house and
garage tunes – noticeably good sets came from Seb Fontaine and
Brandon Block. Brandon Block together with Alex P, have just
released a ‘Clockwork Orange’ album which was mixed live in Ibiza
during the Summer, it is out on ‘Public Demand’ and is very well
worth a listen!
After buying drinks at averagely priced bars, which are plenty and
always fast on service, we settled down to some exciting sounds. The
lights, were always colourful, complimenting the jumping atmosphere
as the people (including us) got down to some dancing! Another thing
I noticed were the backdrops that had been placed in the venue,
continuing the Halloween theme with cobwebs etc. Nice touch!
Deciding at the beginning of the month what to do on Halloween, we
were pleased to see Clockwork Orange putting on a night at our local
club.
The novelty of the night, was the array of colourful characters
dressed in keeping with the Halloween theme, and there were plenty
to see among the groups on the floor and balconies. By the end of
the evening, after some excellent sets and a good atmosphere, we had
to rate the night as one of Camden’s better Saturdays, and made a
definite resolve to visit the Clockwork Orange venues again. Top
Night!
