Evolution 15 At The Sanctuary, Milton Keynes
Saturday 18th November 1995 – 6.00pm – 1.00am
Another step forward… Always one step ahead!
The fifteenth Evolution event to kick off and am I pissed off that I
missed the other fourteen! What can I say? A night remembered! As we
got off the coach, which brought us from our home of Romford, at
7.00pm we could hear the tunes blaring out from The Sanctuary. The
walls were vibrating with the sounds of the DJ Frenzic who was the
warm up set. Unfortunately we missed it but were told by another
raver that this set was blinding, just top jungle anthems. We piled
on the back of the queue which was, how can I say, massive! Being a
girl I got in the venue in about ¼ hour. The boys queue wasn’t too
good but they all agreed that is was well worth the wait. I think
this is something they have to sort out at The Sanctuary because the
queuing never seems to improve!
I won’t forget my first impression of the place. Wicked tunes, good
dancers and MC’s with loads of brightly coloured lasers supplied by
Laserplay, roboscans, terrastrobes, and the funkiest UV guns.
The main arena was full of people and the atmosphere was excellent
with thousands of young ravers all dancing to the sounds of the
DJ’s. After speaking to the promoter I learnt that the attendance
was about 1,900 which is a record for Evolution. We walked straight
into the centre of it all and all let our bodies go wild to the
happy hardcore sounds of DJ Dougal. He was already in full swing and
sending out happy vibes to the rest of Evolution.
Slipmatt was up next and produced a good set of tunes, on the happy
tip which kept us all elated. Slipmatt is my favourite deckmaster
and I was pleased to see that he didn’t disappoint me.
Time to return to the deep sounds of jungle where Hype came through
with some excellent remixes which kept me and the other ravers
dancing for the whole night.
We took a wander upstairs to Arena 2 which was playing happy
hardcore and techno. Dream was at the decks and using them well, as
the room was full of sweaty young ravers giving it their all. I
personally preferred Arena 1, the atmosphere seemed electric.
After Hype came the one and only Mickey Finn who we all agreed
played a great set with plenty of up-front tunes from the jungle
labels. Feeling sweaty we took a stroll outside to a small chilling
area where I sat down for a while and few of my mates munched out on
beefburgers. The drinks were reasonably priced at £15.0 per bottle
of water or £1.00 for a Coke (I don’t know – you work it out!).
Next came Easygroove who played a mean set of Jungle, however the
best was yet to come. A whole hour of Hixxy who played us out with
some really excellent tunes including two of my favourites ‘Toy
Town’ and ‘People Party’. Everyone was going MAD! The live
performances by Essential Platinum were blinding! I think these PA’s
got down really well with the punters who all seemed to enjoy it!
At the end of the night we could have carried on dancing. On the
coach we were all still buzzing from the experience. (Not to mention
the buzzing in my ears).
We are all going to the next Evolution rave and I would tell any
young raver that Evolution is definitely an experience you don’t
want to miss.
